Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring Develop Camp Cohort 1 participants and their mentors.
Alexandra Bryan is a mom of 2- Eloise, 3 years old and Sebastian, 9 months.
Rowan University, Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications, English minor
California University of PA, Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education, English
High school English teacher for 7 years, until this past December. Now a SAHM.
What has been the biggest challenge you've faced since becoming a mom?
Learning how to prioritize. I can't do all.the.things. like I'm used to. So I have had to learn when to step back, think big picture, and focus on completing the most important tasks. I am still in the process of figuring this skill out too. I have a tendency to be "extra" as my husband like to say, so I don't often like to relinquish my vision or let things go.
What has been your proudest accomplishment as a mom?
Honestly, this isn't a single accomplishment, but seeing the everyday lessons that I emphasize with my 3-year-old manifest in her interactions with other people without my prompting. Things like kindness, empathy, and sharing - I see her bring her brother her favorite toys to soothe him when he cries or sharing the slide with other kids at the park.
What has been your greatest professional accomplishment?
Seeing my hard work and diligent study come to life in some tangible way, like when students come back to me years later to tell me about the ways my class prepared them for college.
I chose to register for Develop Camp because:
I need a new direction and path forward from this point in my life.
I am most looking forward to the future because:
There are so many possible directions! I see a ton of career options at this point, but I need some technical study and skill-honing first.
