Alison Falk took a risk on an online development bootcamp that paid off.
What field or industry are you currently in?
Web Application Development
What company do you work for?
What advice do you have for women who want to pursue leadership positions?
If you are waiting for the perfect moment, you will be waiting forever. Just go for it, and if you fail, learn from your mistakes and try again. Look at failing as a positive thing rather than a negative; it is the secret sauce that helps you to discover what elements you need to succeed.
Have you had to make any sacrifices in your personal life to achieve your professional success?
Yes, I was unemployed and broke. I had to decide between going to work at a minimum wage, temp job or using the last of my money to enroll in an online development bootcamp and struggle with finances for awhile while learning to code full time. I chose to struggle short term in order to have a better future, and it paid off more than I could have imagined.
What are ways you stay current? Do you have any favorite websites or podcasts?
I am currently enrolled in a cybersecurity engineering program through GWU in which I am required to do weekly research on cyber topics in the news. Sometimes it's hard to give the entirety of your attention to code or technology, though, so outside of the tech world, I really enjoy listening to podcasts and reading books on how to be a better version of myself, positive thinking, etc. I'm constantly looking for new ways to "upgrade" or compete with the current version of me and then sharing newfound methods with others in the hope that it can help them bring success as well.
