Mary Fox, co-founder and CEO of Marlow, shares her three step process for pursuing leadership.
What field or industry are you currently in?
Career Development / Employee Engagement
What company do you work for? Are you the founder or CEO?
Marlow (Co-Founder / CEO)
What advice do you have for women who want to pursue leadership positions?
Start preparing early - it's never too early to show leadership potential.
Communicate your goals with your managers so that you can partner to build a plan that gets you to where you want to go.
Identify what makes you feel energized and motivated (and what causes you to feel the opposite) then take actions to make sure you're surrounded by the good stuff!
Have you had to make any sacrifices in your personal life to achieve your professional success?
Aside from giving up a very solid income to start Marlow, I also live far from my family. I have 10 nieces and nephews who I love dearly, but they all live in Kansas and the travel is just not possible these days. I try to avoid the day-to-day sacrifices as much as I can by remembering to pause and spend time with the people I love for at least a few minutes each day (and for larger chunks of time on the weekends).
What are ways you stay current? Do you have any favorite websites or podcasts?
I use websites and podcasts to stay up to speed. A few personal favorite podcasts are This Week in Startups, A16Z, Freakonomics, DFJ Stanford Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders, and Newshour (from the BBC). If I'm walking, running, commuting, or cleaning my home, you can bet I'm listening to a podcast or Audible book!
