What first inspired you to start Moms Can: Code?
I just wanted to learn how to code again, and when I didn’t know where to begin, I thought I’d ask another mom. The problem? I couldn’t figure out how to connect with other moms learning how to code. There are support groups for everything, why not this?
When did you first learn to code?
My first experience with coding happened in high school. I learned how to code because I wanted to set my MySpace page apart from the others. That’s one of the coolest things about coding - it gives you a certain skill set that can be utilized in more ways than you could imagine, whether it’s for a job, volunteer position, or for fun.
What has been the most challenging part of starting Moms Can: Code?
In only a few short months, the response to this company has been extraordinary. Trying to find the time to get back to each and every person is something that I struggle with constantly. Thank goodness for Boomerang! Otherwise, everyone would know that I am up at 2:30 a.m. sending emails.
What do you love most about this particular startup?
The constant inspiration. It can be really easy to lose your focus when you are trying to juggle too many things. Family, business, time for yourself. What’s phenomenal is that every day I get to read what other mothers are doing, and they inspire me to keep going. It helps me to push harder every single day!
What do you hope your boys learn from all of this?
My hope is that they learn that success requires hard work. Never take anything for granted. The only way to accomplish what you really want to in life is to be persistent. With a little bit of luck and a whole lot of hard work, anything is possible.
