#WhyICode: Ruba Hassan chooses tech career for confidence and flexibility

August 11, 2017

I am a mother of a beautiful 5 year old girl. Living in the bay area, I decided I wanted to get into tech! I started my journey by taking a few online coding classes and then took a part time night class to learn Python. It went great and I really enjoyed meeting women in tech and hearing about what they work on and their day to day.

From there I decided I wanted to go all in and join a women’s coding bootcamp. I attended a fellowship program and built some really awesome apps. I am currently working as a full stack software engineer for a biotech company in South San Francisco. I work with an amazing team and really enjoy what I do. Being in this field I have built so many things that I never thought I was capable of doing. I feel more confident and stronger as a woman and a mother. Attending networking events and tech meetups have given me the opportunity to meet more successful and smart women in tech and it’s been great. I love having the flexibility with my work schedule to spend more time with my daughter. That was my main goal when I chose to switch careers. At the moment I am learning more and more by learning new technologies on the job and new frameworks. I plan on adding more and more to my tech stack within the next few months.
